In the year 2017, a group of Filipino architects shared a compelling vision: to establish a chapter of the United Architects of the Philippines in Australia and New Zealand. Notably, many of these visionary architects had relocated from Singapore to Australia during the chapter's inception. Consequently, UAP Singapore emerged as the pioneering and nurturing entity, giving birth to this emerging chapter. Creating this chapter posed a significant challenge, primarily because the members were dispersed across multiple cities in two different countries. The physical distance between individuals and the logistical complexities involved in planning the charter presented obstacles. Surprisingly, founding members have discovered that this distance and time constraints, which initially appeared as hindrances to chartering process, have actually fostered the group's resilience and determination. In 2019, the formation group intensified the search for prospective members through the formation of regional coordinator groups representing States and Territories across Australia and New Zealand. These dedicated coordinators organized engaging lecture series, with the primary objective of attracting new members to join the organization. Subsequently, they stablished state-based group chats to foster camaraderie among members. These strategic initiatives yielded significant results, notably boosting the ranks of Filipino Registered Architects who joined the chapter formation, even in the face of the challenges posed by the Covid19 pandemic. The official establishment of the 182nd chartered UAP chapter took place on March 6, 2021, under the dynamic leadership of its Charter President, Ar. Hazel Aguilar Membrere, boasting a robust foundation comprising 30 charter members hailing from both Australia and New Zealand. The momentous presentation and inauguration ceremonies conducted during the 75th Anniversary of PH-AU Relations gracing the grounds of Philippine Embassy in Canberra, Australia. This special occasion was even more inclusive through virtual participation, where members and the UAP National Council joined in to mark this historic event.
LOGO
The main feature of Australia Chapter logo is the UAP logo. Kangaroos are the symbol of Australia; the hopping kangaroo characterizes the organization and country to keep moving forward. One of the legs of the kangaroo is a ‘boomerang’, which is an internationally recognized symbol of Australia. The integration of boomerang is in respect for Aboriginal people, which is a symbol of cultural endurance and a tangible link to their long presence in this continent. The logo is an integration of UAP logo; Australia, New Zealand, and Philippine flags; kangaroo, and boomerang designed and conceptualized by Ar. Dan Carlvin Membrere.
